Navigating within Frozen Conflicts
My PhD project ‘Navigating within Frozen Conflicts’ focuses on protracted conflicts which can be characterized as ‘frozen’. This term has mainly being applied to post-Soviet states where violent conflict has cooled down but remains unresolved. The PhD project re-conceptualizes the term ‘frozen conflict’ and points to its relevance beyond the time and place generally applied. In an attempt to document the effects these frozen conflicts have on the lives of people living within them, the central question of the project is: how do people navigate within a conflict that a state is ignoring? The PhD project gives special attention to young generations working with the hypothesis that conflicts are transformed yet reproduced by new generations.
