Research Symposium

Course facilitator: Lynn P. Nygaard. Time: 18-19 September 2012. Venue: PRIO.

The fall symposium for the Research School will take place in conjunction with the celebrations marking the end of the Center for the Study of Civil War (CSCW) at PRIO, giving Research School participants an opportunity to take part in the various events that will take place in the days immediately following the symposium.

The agenda for the symposium will combine presentations from research school participants with three mini-seminars:

  • Håvard Strand will talk about how to read and present quantitative data understandably (“Statistics for Dummies”);
  • Jørgen Carling will give us insight into what policymakers want from us and how we can write good policy briefs,
  • and a special guest speaker Greta Solomon will talk about techniques for working through writer’s block.

Please remember that attendance at the symposium is mandatory (although we do understand that some of you may be on fieldwork or have other scheduling conflicts). The main function of the symposium is to help research school participants build networks and practical skills related to being a peace researcher, and this is something that cannot be done without your presence.
